AmChamps Alumni: The NLP Workshop

AmChamps alumni had the opportunity to learn about the NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) model and its benefits in setting and reaching career and life goals.

The workshop was guided by the questions of AmChamps alumni, who were interested in ways to apply NLP to their own career and life goals.

The workshop was facilitated by Predrag Jovanović, certified NLP coach. He explained that NLP's creators claim a connection between the neurological processes (neuro-), language (linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (programming), and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. It was stressed out that NLP is strictly NOT a science, thus can not be experimentally examined, but it is rather a model with great results in setting and reaching goals, changing bad habits and improving interpersonal communication. The results and word of mouth are to blame for the popularity and spread of NLP.

It was explained that NLP is about setting goals with the mindset of “If you were able to achieve anything that you are physically capable of achieving, what would you want your life to look like?” It was stressed that the most important part does not include figuring out strictly HOW to achieve our goals (microstrategy), but WHAT specifically our goals are (macrostrategy) and what are we doing every day to get one step closer to them. The big picture was another theme in the workshop, but the big picture that is not only career related, but also related to family life, location of living/working, personal development, etc.

Visualization is another important concept that was discussed, and to prove its benefits, participants were asked to do a visualization exercise that had impressive results.
