As Partner Director, Mr Šumić will drive strategic growth of Belgrade facility
Dražen Šumić completed his secondary education in Čačak, going on to obtain his undergraduate degree (2003) and MSc (2008) in electrical engineering from the University of Belgrade. He joined Microsoft in 2011 as Product Manager with the SQL team, and over the past eight years led the Product Management and Data Science teams for Azure Cloud Services and SQL Server. He became a partner in September 2022.
‘Thanks to the work we have all invested together, MCDS is a vastly different place than it was in 2011, when I joined the team. We now have over 600 engineers, and our center is responsible for some of Microsoft’s key services. I would like to thank my predecessor, Dragan Tomić, who I learned much from, for his sure leadership. The MCSD is a development center covering the entire software product development cycle, but also works with users to ensure they adopt the software. Our sense of community and our desire to be the best are our key strengths. They have not changed, and I believe they never will’, said Mr Šumić.
Microsoft Development Center Serbia (MDCS) has built a reputation within the company globally and is considered to be one of the major development centers in Europe. It creates some of Microsoft’s most innovative services used by millions of people worldwide, including cloud services and generative artificial intelligence. Knowledge, talent, motivation, vision, and a cross-cutting team able to come up with pragmatic solutions, deliver projects quickly, and work closely with clients have all been key to the center’s positioning to date. All projects developed in Serbia have received recognition from both Microsoft globally and millions of users worldwide and have placed the country on the global map as a major IT destination.
‘We are continuing to follow our vision of becoming Microsoft’s primary development center in Eastern Europe, with a central campus in Belgrade. To deliver what we have planned, it is essential to keep growing and improving our knowledge, because we live an industry that values only innovations,’ Mr Šumić added.
