Tech giant has been driving digital transformation by fostering progress and innovation in Serbian businesses and society
Microsoft celebrated its 20th anniversary of doing business in Serbia at a media event where Milan Gospić, Director of Microsoft Serbia, and Dražen Šumić, Site Leader of Microsoft Development Center Serbia, spoke about the company’s impact on the country and the local market over the past two decades. The pair highlighted the influence the company has had on technological progress and innovation at Serbian businesses and across society in general by sharing knowledge and expertise and creating jobs, partnering, and collaborating with local organizations, and helping the Serbian IT industry grow and flourish.
Microsoft’s position, having both Commercial and Development teams in the country, impacts the country’s digital economy and human capital development and builds an immense potential for Serbia. Microsoft has been devoted to the digitalization of society and industry, providing cutting-edge technology, bringing experience and practices from global markets, and growing local talents and digital skills. The company continues to invest in a network of local partners, stimulating the growth of the local economy. Nearly 700 staff and eight engineering teams work at the Microsoft Development Center Serbia to develop and improve some of the most critical Microsoft products, such as cloud services and generative artificial intelligence.
“When we organized the first Sinergija event in 2001 we recognized the huge talent and potential of the Serbian IT community. Since then, we have remained committed to digitalization and empowering organizations to leverage technology for growth and innovation. Over the past 20 years, digital transformation has been the fundamental mission of Microsoft in Serbia. Working with our partners in the public and private sectors, we have helped businesses, organizations, and individuals gain digital skills and implement solutions, optimize their operations, and achieve much success. Our advanced technologies, knowledge, and expertise make us responsible for being at the forefront of shaping Serbia’s digital image. We are entering a new digital era, the era of artificial intelligence, with the aim of making technology always available to all and ensuring it empowers individuals and organizations to achieve more,” said Milan Gospić.
Microsoft’s presence in Serbia has helped local tech companies bridge the gap to the global market, allowing them to access the resources and expertise they needed to support their growth and development. In recent years, Microsoft Development Center Serbia has greatly scaled up its work, becoming involved in broader projects and initiatives to accelerate the development of Serbian society. A critical emphasis has been placed on education, where young Serbians have received help to grow and use their talents in their own country.
“Microsoft is a global company with development centers throughout the world, and the one in Serbia is unique for its innovative solutions and talented people. Our recipe is to rely on the exceptional potential of highly educated people in Serbia and the region. This allows our company to offer world-class teams that create complete and successful software products. We invest in the local community in Serbia and throughout the region to improve education and people’s ambitions and continue to grow and develop,” said Dražen Šumić.
Microsoft is planning to offer ever stronger support to Serbian businesses and organizations, from startups to small and medium-sized firms to large companies, non-governmental organizations, and public authorities, fostering their digital growth and development. Cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, are increasingly changing the business environment and accelerating progress, and Microsoft’s AI-based tools and solutions are at the forefront of the evolution in how we work and live.
