Roundtable on Sustainable Project Financing Held at AmCham
A roundtable discussion titled “How to Achieve More Efficient Financing of Sustainable Projects” was held at the premises of the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia, gathering representatives of commercial banks, the business sector, and sustainability experts.
The event aimed to explore current challenges and opportunities in financing sustainable projects, both within the EU and in Serbia. Special attention was given to one of the latest EU proposals – the SME Sustainable Finance Standard, designed to ease access to capital for small and medium-sized enterprises and to simplify the sustainability reporting process.
The need for additional education and the exchange of best practices was emphasized, in order to help domestic companies better understand the requirements of sustainable financing and become more prepared to meet them. It was particularly noted that there are varying interpretations of the green agenda – between the EU and Serbia, as well as among individual companies – which further complicates the implementation of unified standards. Participants stressed the importance of adapting international frameworks to the local context to ensure their applicability and to foster the development of green and transitional investments in Serbia.
The discussion also addressed ways to improve the domestic framework, including the standardization of ESG reporting, data availability, and the introduction of new financing instruments that could support Serbia’s green transition.
