Delhaize Serbia presents new goals and report on sustainable development

Through daily donations of fruit and vegetables and collaboration with Belgrade’s Food Bank, the company has shown a strategic commitment to providing support to the local community. In 2018 alone it donated over 1,200 tons of food, while Serbia’s first eco-friendly store, EKO-Maxi supermarket, opened the same year in New Belgrade. The company also reduced its total energy consumption by two percent the previous year.
“With a strategic approach to topics that are important for society, we have managed to attract the community and take significant steps towards creating a sustainable environment. As a company that launches numerous global initiatives, it is very important for us to involve as many fellow citizens as possible in all our local activities and make our planet a better place for all of us. We are also working on raising awareness about everything that can improve the quality of people's lives, from reducing food waste to promoting healthier eating. Good results are always a motivation, as is our responsibility to remain leaders in change and an example to other responsible companies and individuals in the years ahead” said Mirjana Jovašević, Delhaize’s Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainable Development.
Ahold Delhaize is a participant in an agreement which aims for all plastics within the private brand to be fully recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025. In the upcoming period, the company’s operations both globally and at the local level will be adapted to the goals of the Scientific Community for Climate Change, with the aim of providing an appropriate contribution to ensure that the average temperature on Earth does not rise by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
