AmCham community HR experts discuss challenges and opportunities in enhancing organizational culture
AmCham’s HR Forum partnered with healthcare provider MediGroup to organize a Corporate Culture workshop. The company’s HR manager Ivana Pejak briefly introduced the key features of their organizational culture, focusing on its type in the competing values framework (clan, ad-hocracy, hierarchy, and market) and their performance measurement models. Ivana highlighted the complexity of transformations stemming from the differences between the various corporate cultures, comprised as they were from rules, customs, and people and their behaviors, with everyone personally playing a role in shaping how the company is ultimately perceived.
A number of practical examples were showcased that emphasized methods used in transforming corporate culture. The workshop presented a detailed explanation of corporate cultures according to the competing values framework, including how their features are determined by their rules and procedures, behavior of leaders and employees, risk, and acceptance of innovation. The participants also heard about the importance of aligning a company’s organizational scheme and culture with corporate strategy. It was emphasized that all managers and staff needed to understand the firm’s incentives system, as that was critical for the transformation process.
The presentation was followed by group work, with participants solving a case study based on the typology outlined by the lecturers, and then discussing their insights and findings.
The participants used the practical examples showcased in the presentation to seek to recognize situations they had encountered in their own professional experience and find appropriate solutions to improve their companies’ corporate cultures.
