The Second Workshop Held within the Educational Part of the Project
The educational segment of the She Knows project continued with a series of workshops aimed at empowering women in the workplace. In addition to hearing from private sector stakeholders, the participants were able to gain insights into government efforts to tackle gender discrimination.
Serbian Equality Commissioner Brankica Janković delivered a presentation on anti-discrimination mechanisms. “Respect for human rights and equality are crucial topics that should concern both men and women equally. Although women often face discrimination in social life, men also contact the Office of the Equality Commissioner seeking protection against discrimination on various grounds,” said Janković. Her presentation was attended by AmCham member companies, startups, and companies from the Pčinja-Jablanica region. Janković specifically addressed inheritance rights, which constitute a fundamental human right, highlighting the numerous challenges women face in exercising these rights.
Following the introductory presentation on anti-discrimination, Tatjana Jokanović, Senior Advisor at the Office of the Equality Commissioner, practically demonstrated the process of filing a complaint. Using multiple unorthodox cases of discrimination based on a variety of criteria (ethical, positional, gender-based), Tatjana helped participants understand the pervasive nature of gender discrimination in society and how to combat it.
Miša Stojiljković, psychologist, journalist, and creator of the podcast Dad, You’re Crazy, provided a media perspective on issues surrounding equality protection, while attorney Bojana Drobnjak introduced participants to the practical details of litigation on this topic.
Finally, Tamara Letić and Bojan Rosić of Microsoft shared their experiences with participants regarding parental leave taken by fathers.
