MediGroup, the largest private healthcare system in Serbia, along with the Regina Maria network from Romania, is joining the Mehiläinen group. Mehiläinen is the largest private healthcare system in Finland, with over 115 years of experience in healthcare and a growing international presence. Mehiläinen will acquire 100% ownership of the MediGroup and Regina Maria systems, marking the exit of investors MidEuropa and Blue Sea Capital from the ownership structure.
This new partnership confirms the high potential for further development of the healthcare sector in Serbia and the region, opening a new phase in the growth of the MediGroup system, 12 years after its founding. The transaction is subject to standard regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
“We are entering a new era as MediGroup and Regina Maria become part of the Mehiläinen group. Since 2018, the majority owner MidEuropa has supported the growth of the MediGroup system on its path to consolidating the leadership position of the largest private healthcare system in Serbia. Now, with the expertise and international presence of Mehiläinen, we are ready to further enhance our services, introduce innovations, and set new standards in healthcare. This is an important milestone that strengthens our commitment to providing top-quality medical care across Serbia,” said Marijana Vasilescu, CEO of the MediGroup system.
Mehiläinen is a healthcare system established in Finland and is currently present in five European countries. The group operates more than 890 medical institutions, employing over 37,000 healthcare professionals. Annually, the group provides services to more than 2.2 million users, and in 2024, it achieved revenue of two billion euros, representing an 11.5% increase compared to the previous year.
