After the reconstruction, Sava Centar becomes a smart and green building – designed not only to save electrical energy but also to generate it, thanks to the solar panels installed on the roof
More than 40 representatives from member companies of AmCham attended the first visit of this year’s “Meet the ESG Champions” caravan, this time touring Sava Centar after its reconstruction, carried out by Delta Real Estate.
The visit to Sava Centar was organized as part of the “Meet the ESG Champions” series, which involves visits to AmCham member companies distinguished by innovative approaches and practices in the areas of environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance. “Such events provide an exceptional opportunity for connecting sustainability professionals, exchanging experiences, and creating new business opportunities,” said Ana Vulović, Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager at AmCham, emphasizing that this is just a part of a much broader AmCham project that will address ESG issues over the next two years.
During the presentation, Tijana Koprivica, Director of Sustainable Business at Delta Holding, highlighted that Delta Holding has invested over 118 million euros in the renovation of this facility, making it modern and sustainable, with increased capacity that can now accommodate more than 8,000 visitors. Throughout the presentation, she emphasized the company’s sustainability goals, highlighting Delta Holding’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices.
Katarina Gajić, Director of Design and Construction at Delta Real Estate, emphasized: “Delta Holding carefully led the reconstruction with the aim of preserving the original architecture of the building, the work of the renowned architect Stojan Maksimović, which has nominated Sava Centar for the Pritzker Prize, the world’s highest recognition in architecture. The old glass facade has been replaced with energy-efficient glass, while preserving the color scheme, architecture, and purpose of this building. Inside, recognizable elements of the interior by architect Aleksandar Šaletić have been preserved, such as large concrete surfaces, hydrants, the famous chandelier, and other interior elements recognizable for generations. Artworks have been preserved, such as the famous tapestries in the Main Congress Hall and the collage by Predrag Peđa Milosavljević. The renovation also included the implementation of energy-efficient solutions, such as solar panels on the roof, resulting in a four-fold increase in energy production, making Sava Centar a globally eco-certified congress center.“
The reconstruction project also includes significant greening of the interior and surroundings of the building, ensuring that Sava Centar will become a true green oasis in the center of New Belgrade. Through renovation and modernization down to the smallest detail, Sava Centar will serve as inspiration for many other congress centers, not only in the region but throughout Europe.
This visit represents recognition of Delta Holding as a leader in implementing ESG principles, following best practices in building renovation and promoting sustainability in the Serbian market.
