Together with UN Women, AmCham Serbia HR Forum held a workshop dedicated to balance between work and personal life at Belgrade’s Metropol Palace Hotel.
AmCham Executive Director Vera Nikolić Dimić opened the event, reminding the audience the HR Forum was an opportunity to discuss various aspects of doing business and issues including employment, working conditions, and interpersonal relations in public environments.
Tatjana Macura, cabinet minister without portfolio responsible for gender equality, preventing violence against women, and women’s empowerment said the key to progress was working to bring about culture change, emphasizing the importance of normalizing the equal division of housework.
Milana Rikanović, Head of the UN Women Office in Serbia, presented concerning findings that show women spend on average four hours every day doing unpaid housework, with 67 percent of all women finding it difficult to achieve a work-life balance.
Psychologist and psychotherapist Tijana Mirović spoke about psychological challenges, such as burnout and stress, that result from overwork and excessive responsibilities in the home. She highlighted the importance of learning to set boundaries and practicing mental hygiene, with particular emphasis on specific psychological techniques and tools that can be used to prevent long-term health impacts.
The panel discussion was moderated by AmCham HR Forum President Ivana Pejak and the panelists were Tatjana Macura, Nevena Marčeta, Project Manager at UN Women, Jelena Kralj, professional leadership and carer development coach, and Milena Rajković, employee experience manager. They shared their experiences and suggestions for improving working conditions, placing emphasis on institutional dialogue, flexible working arrangements, and investing in social protection and care for staff.
The participants then split into four breakout sessions, devoted to awareness-raising, social responsibility, education and growth, and rewards and benefits. The groups proposed concrete steps, including flexible working hours, manager education, and parenting support.
The event served as a platform to exchange experiences and tangible solutions for improving women’s work-life balance.
