The fifth generation of mobile internet promises to accelerate cellular data transfer speeds from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, a massive boost that will make next-generation wireless competitive with even the fastest fiber-optic wired networks. 5G should significantly improve the bandwidth, capacity and reliability of cellular broadband far more than previous generational shifts. Low latency is one of 5G's most important attributes, making the technology highly suitable for critical applications that require rapid responsiveness, such as remote vehicle control, MBB services, smart grid, medicine, communal services, agriculture and smart manufacturing.
“We share the vision of Serbia as the leader in the region in developing digital economy and innovations. 5G is the technology of the future and we want to be ready for the moment when it is commercially available. We are inviting companies from the country and region to use the opportunity that 5G environment is available and to start developing their business solutions for the future now”, said the CEO of Telenor Serbia, Mike Michel.
From September, students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, who are the first partners of this project, will start using 5G test environment. Two start – ups, Novelic i DigitalWorx presented their development solutions (Smart manufacturing and IOT movement simulation) and agreed that telecom operators, as the providers 5G wireless network, have the potential to become the best enablers and trustworthy business partners for industry customers. For this test environment Telenor got from the relevant regulator (Ratel) a temporary license for spectrum in the frequency bands 3600 and 2600 MHz, which can support functionalities of 5G network.
